I’m super late to the party, but has anyone come across having the game minimize itself every time you go into it? Managed to work the graphics out and get those fixed when it went haywire but I can’t do anything because the game minimizes the window the second you click on it.
How did you fix the small gray boxes during cutscenes? I’m late too! I haven’t had that happen to me yet though
Got this bad boy to play with no problems. Follow these instructions, see if it helps!
1. and unzip.
2. Create a new folder on your desktop.
3. Mount the ISO and with file explorer open, right-click on the Mounted BRC CD and click copy.
4. Paste that into the new folder on your desktop.
5. In the pasted folder, right-click on the SETUP.exe and go to Properties.
6. In the Compatibility tab, check the box to run it in compatibility mode for Windows XP Service Pack 2.
7. Click OK, then right-click the SETUP.exe and run as .
Chances are you’re get the Windows pop-up to start the installation, but nothing will happen. If that’s the case, read on. If the set-up runs fine, go to Step 8 and skip the next paragraph.
After you run the SETUP.exe as , open task manager. You should see something like Setup32 or something in the Background Processes in the Processes tab. Go over to the Details tab, find that Setup32 process and right-click. Select Analyze Wait Chain. The set-up is the first option, and anything under it is prevent it from continuing. Close that. The set-up should instantly start.
8. Start the SETUP, let it install the game.
9. Once installed, go to the first folder, not your copied folder. You want the OG Unzipped folder. Find the Barbie Riding Club application in there, right click, and go to properties.
10. Go to compatibility mode, have it run in Winodws XP Service Pack 2.
11. Turn on reduced color mode to the 8-bit setting and click OK to save your settings.
12. Using that same application in the original unzipped folder (Not your copied folder!) Open the game and run it.
13. When you get to the part where you enter your name, don’t enter anything. For some reason, entering anything will crash the game. Just click the stable button.
Baddaboom. That’s exactly what I did and I experienced 0 issues. Everything funcitons correctly, no weird grey boxes, no sideways against the screen nonsense. Just me and my nostalgia from 26 years ago for an hour.

Okay, so I followed this exactly up until step 9. Launching it through the OG folder wouldn’t work, kept getting an error message over and over to insert the CD-ROM. But launching it through the copied folder worked like a charm, cutscenes look great and everything. THANK YOU!!
I also changed my compatibility to Windows 98/ME. The cutscenes do get borked on subsequent game loads so to keep the cutscenes working, play it all in one go. 🙂
This worked for me, and then it would crash after the opening cutscene. I had to make sure to set the copied .exe file to compatability mode as well, and so far it’s working great!
Unfortunately, I’ve done all of these steps. Still asks for CD-Rom 🙁
I still get the 4 grayscale boxes during cutscenes and horse riding. It also randomly crashes during the cutscenes. Anyway to fix that?

Hi! bit of an amateur and first time posting comment so bear with me..
Potential fix for windows 11 – installed as usual through OGD and opened game – all black and white/pixelated/multiple screens in one.
I right clicked of Barbie Riding Club desktop icon and went to Properties then Compatibility tab
I checked box that says Run this program in compatibility mode for:
and changed drop down to: Windows 98/Windows Me
Then checked the box that says Reduced colour mode and changed it to: 8 bit (256) colour.
click apply then ok
Relaunch the game and it pops up with error message saying this will run better in 8 bit (256) colour ((GO FIGURE)), I just clicked yes and now all seems to be working fine other than cut scenes.
Hope this helps and if anyone knows how to fix the cut scenes plz reply hehe 🙂
Installing takes a long time to initiate. Just run it and wait for the window to pop up some time later.
After installing, righ-click on the icon in the ‘CD drive’ and set compatibility to Windows 95, and reduce color scheme to make it not stick to the left side of the screen.
The program will complain that it needs more colors so just click okay.
I found that if I didn’t reduce the colors at all, the game would become unreadable.
Now the program will run perfectly in still pictures, like in the stable or when stopping the horse on the path.
I wasn’t able to fix the four grayscale screens on top of the screen whenever there is a cutscene or we’re ridinng the horse.
Any further suggestions?
Take a look at my reply I just posted above. I did some fiddling and I got this to work without any issues. 🙂
if anyone is still having trouble with this game, i managed to get it working with a Windows XP virtual machine. TheHowToGuy123 on youtube has great and simple (Easy to follow) tutorial to set this up with.

I really want to own this game…. only this site has it , I looked up other sites to but no luck.
for the life of me i can’t get this to work. i try to run setup in compatibility mode (i’ve tried windows 7, windows xp, windows 95) but it never actually opens, the loading wheel just spins for a couple of seconds before stopping and nothing happens. i have the Actual CD and i just wanna play this dumb game from my childhood. any help?

Tried all compatibility modes and it either launches in black and white and isn’t properly displayed, or it tells me to reload from the CD. Or some registration screen comes up and clearly doesn’t allow you to . Win 10. Any suggestions?
So I had basically ALL of the problems I’ve seen.
For it asking for a CD-rom, I found setting the compatability mode to windows 7 usually byed this. It also seemed to fix the 4 greyscale versions of the screen during the horse riding, for now at least.
For it shutting down after naming, I simply didn’t type a name in- you can click the stable button at the bottom to start without the name.
I’m not sure if this will help for everyone, but hope it helps for some.

This article helped me fix my issue with the 4 grayscale horse screens at the top of the window.
This game plays for me, but some screens the image doesn’t display properly. Its split into four black and white screens across the top of the window, does anyone know how to fix this?
After installing, try running the game from the EXE in the CD folder instead of the EXE you installed. I copied the CD files to my s folder and run it from there.
i press setup to install but nothing happens, any ideas?
I thought nothing happened as well, turned out it took like a bit over an hour to load! Give it some time, maybe it will come up after a while.
Make sure to mount the ISO file so you have a “CD” to play from. Good ol google will help!
If the game works but shuts down after entering your name of when the images are only on one side, try this. Not guaranteed it will work for you but it worked for me (windows 11)
Open game files – right click on ‘brc’ – go to properties – then Compatibility – click on ‘Run this program in compatibility mode for:’- choose Windows 95 – then go the settings (below) – then mark only the last 4 options – click on ‘brc’ to start the game.

this was the only thing that worked for me, but unfortunately i cant see my horse, jsut a black screen, while riding.
